A day trip to Trakošćan castle, travelling through the green and hilly Zagorje county, with a lunch in one of the famous local taverns. Walking shoes recommended, suitable for all ages.
Trakošćan castle is the best preserved and most visited medieval structure in Croatian countryside. Dated back to 14 century, although probably even older, Trakošćan witnessed some of the most turbulent events in Croatian history. It was the seat of prominent Croatian noble family Drašković, and since the II world war is a wonderfully equipped and maintained museum. Experience hunting trophies, knights armours, old paintings, hand crafted furniture, military flags, flooring and hand-made ceilings, or the best weapons collection in the country, and some of the nicest views in the county.
Situated on a hill, just above a picturesque lake, Trakošćan castle is a perfect destination for a day out in the green Zagorje county.
